Assisted reproduction for Lesbians in Cantabria, Spain

The Cantabria Government will acknowledge the right of lesbian and bisexual women by law to access to assisted reproduction, Mrs. María Luisa Real, Health secretary announced last saturday.

This initiative pursues the right to have health assistance without discrimination for “sexual orientation reasons, expression or gender identity”, the Cantabria Government has released fiscal and administrative measures that go with the budget for 2016, proposed by the Concierge.

Once approved, the public health system will establish that will guarantee the access to assisted human reproduction to any person or couple, independently of their sexual orientation and marital status.

Mrs Real has remarked that through this measure, they try to guarantee to these people, an international, european and constitutional acknowledged right on human rights, sexual orientation and gender identity, besides, it condemns any type of discrimination for this cause.
