The confession of a gay kid thrills to Hillary Clinton

As we bask in the afterglow of Pride and our Supreme Court victory, we can’t forget that there are still many LGBT Americans who still worry about what lies ahead.

This little guy is one of them: The subject of Humans of New York this week, he told photographer Brandon Stanton, “I’m homosexual and I’m afraid about what my future will be and that people won’t like me.”

The anguish in his face is so palpable, you want to reach through the screen and give him a hug. It reminds us that, even in a tolerant city like New York, the fear of being different can be overwhelming.

Not surprisingly, many commenters offered words of support and encouragement. “If you were my son, I’d love you just the same,” wrote one sympathetic vistor. “And I’d be the proudest dad for [you] having the courage to admit it to yourself and the world.”
“I’m a homosexual and my future is bright and people love and adore me,” wrote another. “And all I had to I do was be myself.”

Our favorite, though was from presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (yes, it was really her), who wrote, “Prediction from a grown-up: Your future is going to be amazing. You will surprise yourself with what you’re capable of and the incredible things you go on to do. Find the people who love and believe in you – there will be lots of them.”
