Los Angeles: 28-year-old Brian Justin Crum gave the performance of his life on the popular talent show with a powerful rendition of Queen’s power ballad Somebody To Love, earning universal praise from the judges.

In his pre-performance video, Brian confessed: “I was bullied for being overweight, I was bullied for being gay, I was bullied for wanting to be a singer”.

I had a lot of hard times when I was a kid, and [my mum] has been a huge supporter for me.”

Brian’s mum said: “I’m proud of you, I’m proud of how hard you’ve worked, I’m proud of the single-mindedness you’ve had all your life.”

All four judges gave their approval to Brian’s performance, sending him through to the next round.

Former Spice Girls singer Mel B even flirted with the contestant, joking: “If I wasn’t married, and you were straight, we would be in love.”

Heidi Klum cheered: “I just love how you showed all of those people who bullied you… good for you!”

Meanwhile, judge Simon Cowell said: “The truth is, you’re a fantastic singer… This is why these shows exist, to give people like you, with huge talent, an opportunity.”

Brian later tweeted a screenshot of his performance in the ‘trending’ section on Facebook with the caption: “Whoa! I’m trending!”
